Karin Kruger

Karin grew up in South Africa’s world-renowned Kruger National Park where her father was a game ranger. Whilst there she reared an orphaned lion cub, Leo, which was eventually released successfully into the wild.

Karin studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Pretoria.

At the end of her second year, she was asked by South African National Parks to help relocate a young orphaned lioness from Kalahari Gemsbok Park to a temporary refuge at De Wildt. She then realised that she wanted to spend her life drawing and painting wild animals and she began her own study of wildlife art and techniques. Since March 2001 she has been studying under art teacher Lindie Waterkeyn, based in Cape Town.

Karin’s grandfather, film producer Jamie Uys, used wild animals and film stars in his movies ”Beautiful People” and “The Gods Must Be Crazy” and the art of portraying the grace and beauty of animals remains her inherited passions.

Karin lives and studies in Cape Town, South Africa.
