Liza Meyer

Liza Meyer grew up in South Africa where she received her art education at Lawson Brown School of Art and the Technikon in Port Elizabeth, and at UNISA in Pretoria. During this time she did mainly commissioned work. She travelled to North and South America where she was introduced to different cultures and art styles which started her off experimenting with various media and art forms.

Liza's passion for Africa, its peoples and its wildlife led her to explore Southern and Central Africa where she blossomed. During her three-year stay in Botswana she ran her own Children's Art School and held solo exhibitions. The call of the wilderness took her to the Namibian desert where she spent a year honing her eye for subtle colour variations and
landscapes.

She resided in Zimbabwe for five years and during this time she ran her own art gallery and studio in Harare and organised exhibitions for international artists and participated in group exhibitions with local artists. She is now living in the Hartbeespoort Dam area in South Africa from where she does mainly commissioned work such as portraits, horse and animal studies and murals.

Liza enjoys working in different media, although her pencil sketches embody some of her finest work. She has an amazing ability to capture life's struggles on canvas and to express her inner concern for the pain and drama of everyday life. Most of her work reflects a passion for Nature and symbolizes her commentary on the sustainability in the face of human destruction. Her paintings have a surrealistic orientation with a dramatic use of colour and tone. She has exhibited and sold her work through the African Easel since 1995. Liza’s work is represented in private collections in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, UK, Australia, Germany, Portugal, Canada and the USA.
